Warren Delfin

Writing the ABC's we live by, one series at a time.

Warren Delfin builds his books in series — each one taking a single idea and working through it letter by letter, lesson by lesson. The first, The ABC's of Life, opens with The Weakened Heart, Strengthened Soul; more are on the way.

Every series is its own set of ABC's — a set of virtues he returns to, book after book, until the shape of the lesson is clear. This page is the map of that work: what's published, what's underway, and where to start.

The Weakened Heart, Strengthened Soul

The heart may stop, but the soul will continue to emerge.

A memoir told in twenty-six chapters, one for each letter of the alphabet — from a childhood near Clark Air Base, through a father's job loss and a mother's illness, to immigration with $727, five years apart from his children, and a career spent trying to reach people before crisis does. It is memoir and invitation both: a life examined so the reader might examine their own.

Next in this series: Book Two — title to be announced.

From the Book · Chapter A

Awareness

"Before I learned how to change my life, I learned how to notice it."

Growing up near Clark Air Base meant growing up close to a world larger than my own household. The American presence brought different faces, accents, customs, music, food, and ways of thinking into the surroundings of Angeles City. I did not call it cultural diversity then. I simply understood that people could come from different places, carry different histories, and still stand within the same community.

Before difficulty taught me to watch for danger, childhood taught me to watch with wonder. A child's eyes collect value before the child knows how to explain it. The brain stores the scene while the heart stores its meaning.

— from The Weakened Heart, Strengthened Soul, Chapter A: Awareness

A Question for You

Every chapter closes with a passage addressed to the reader — twenty-six questions in all. A few, to start:

  • Awareness

What struggle in your life became visible only after you slowed down enough to notice it?

  • Courage

What room, conversation, or decision are you entering while still afraid?

  • Gratitude

What can you honor without pretending that what happened was good?

  • Zeal

What will help you protect your passion without allowing it to consume you or the people you love?

"Can a frightened person become courageous? Can grief become service? Can a family survive a necessary sacrifice? Can a weakened heart continue to love?"

from the Conclusion, The Heart's Journey

Portrait of Warren Delfin

About the Author

Warren Delfin

Warren Delfin was born in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines, and grew up near Clark Air Base. His early experience of family prosperity followed by unemployment, financial hardship, interrupted access to basic necessities, and the loss of his mother shaped his commitment to resilience, education, and service.

After building a professional life in the Philippines, he immigrated to the United States with his wife in 2001 while their five children remained temporarily in the Philippines. Working long hours and beginning again in a new country, he passed the nursing board in 2002 and became a registered nurse in the United States. The family was reunited in 2007.

His work and leadership in healthcare are guided by a prevention-focused belief: people should receive compassionate, coordinated care before a manageable condition becomes a crisis. He writes about leadership, adversity, family, service, and the responsibility to turn personal struggle into opportunity for others.

What readers are saying

Sample layout below — replace with real reviews as they come in, across any series.

"A memoir that turns hardship into an alphabet of hope. I found myself dog-earing pages I knew I'd want to return to."
Advance Reader Copy
"Reads like a conversation with someone who's been through the fire and can finally name what it taught him. The ABC structure makes it easy to sit with one lesson at a time."
Goodreads Reader
"I picked this up for the structure and stayed for the honesty. The chapter on starting over with $727 in his pocket stopped me cold."
